Cleaning Zollner Pistons...

I'm pulling the pistons out of my W6 & they're pretty oxidized. The rings are rusted tight in their grooves & the pins are stiff. Is there a way I can pull the rings & pin without doing any damage? What about cleaning the corrosion off the piston heads, themselves? No carbon, just corroded from sitting. The owner passed while working on overhauling the tractor & it was never completed. It sat half assembled, for years, before I got it. I understand they probably won't shine like new when I'm done, but I don't want dirty pistons in a fresh overhaul, either. Thanks - Mike

You can squirt the rings & pins with PB Blaster or similar, or soak them in ATF, give 'em a day, tap the rings very lightly around the circumference with a light hammer, repeat until they come loose- patience is the best tool. The pins will free up, too, probably not necessary to pull them out. You can lean the fuzz off the pistons and from the rings & grooves with a soft wire brush, won't scratch the pistons like steel wire
