Do I have 3 hydrolic outlets on my M

I just bought my first M. On the side under the pully is 1 pipe elbow, pluged. On The other side there are 2 pipe elbows that are pluged. How do these work?

The 3 outlets are all connected at the pump, so basically you have just one outlet, and it is for use with one way, lift only hydraulic cylinders. If you want to use it with 2 way cylinders, you need to add some equipment to the tractor.

If you ever take one apart you will find that the rear outlet on the left side is plumbed into the same exact port as the other two. If there was any delay to it, it had to be something in the cylinder that was attached to that port.

Nope, it has a delay. It is why the valve arrangement has the lever action in it and the odd port comes off a separate manifold. It is also why you feel two stops at the bottom of the travel on the control rod.

When you ask for pressure the odd port does not get pressure until the other ports are trying to relieve and that opens the third port. You can't tell if that is the only port hooked up. The pump also has to be in good shape for all the linkages to work. But everyone will agree there is a lot more in teh pump valve train than is needed for a simple one way system.

On the detent almost to the bottom the pump will let the cultivator down until it stops, then the valve will close to keep it from going down farther unless you push the rod the rest of the way down. This won't work on all old pumps but one I mow with it works great so if you lower the Haybine and the end hits a terrace you'll be mowing six inches off the ground until you get straightened out and get to see how you're doing.

Take one apart sometime and you'll see that all three outlets come off of just one manifold, and there is nothing in that manifold to differentiate between the three.

i'll have to dig around, but i have a manual for the i-h mounted cultivators somewhere. i remember something about a delayed lift cylinder for the rear cultivator set. there was also a delay valve you could put in the hydraulic line to slow the drop of an implement on the old belly pumps.

Andy, I have to agree with RustyFarmall on there not being a delayed lift in the rear outlet. Back in the '50s & '60s we cultivated with a stage II SM & a 448 cultivator. When raising the cultivaor at the end the front & rear would lift at the same time leaving the rear tractor tire tracks. Like you said, youcould put the front of the cultivator down without dropping the rear if you worked the hyd lever right. When we cultivated a field the second time we always ran the opposite direction so we could take the tire tracks, & weeds, left the first time when the rear section lifted early.

Later on we added a 3-way control valve that allowed us to lift either side of the cultivator independently of the other & delay raising the rear section till the rear tractor tires crossed into the end rows. We had a couple drianage ditches that angled across some fields & the 3-way valve allowed us to cultivate those points with just two rows down on the cultivator. Also worked good for point rows along the edge of a field. Until we got the 3-way valve we borrowed a neighbors Allis B (may have been a C as it had a narrow front, and his cultivator to cultivate point rows along the field edges. Back then the only chemicals we used were banded so it was important to cultivate out as many weeds as possible.

There is no delayed raise. But, my Super H has delayed drop, I do not remember noticing that on our H in the 50's. I did a LOT of cultivating with that H with front and rear cultivators in the 50's. The rear was not delayed. Tried using the optional delay valve. In general it did not work properly.

Right you needed the extra valve in the line for delayed lift. There's 2 different check valves in the unit that opens to release pressure. One for the front opening on left and the right opening. Other one releases pressure on the rear opening. If there working right pushing rod forward from hold opens check valve for LF and Rt opening. All the way forward releases rear opening or all openings.
