Combine internals?

Are IH 1950's combine internals the same with a bean special and corn, grain internals? Is just the pick-up header what is different? Looking at an IH 101 bean special, but would like to get a corn head for it if the pick-up head is the only difference.

The head is the main difference, but you need to make several adjustments to the internals so that the corn doesn't get cracked and ground up as it passes through. The owners manual explains it all in detail.

thanks
Rustyfarmall can you email me your address. I talked to you about a 2-way valve to make my H work a 2-way hydro cylinder. you said $121, was that with shipping or without. I forgot. Have you sold that setup to others for an H?
Thanks again
Ryan

Check the cylinder, a bean special could have a spring or a spike cylinder not usable for corn.

The bean combine was available with either a spike tooth or a rasp bar cylinder. Most we sold had the spike tooth cylinder. Other than that, I think everything else is basicly the same with a few minor differences. If it has a rasp bar, it should combine about everything except rice. You need a manual for the proper settings.

We had a 91 and a 93, both Bean Specials- my grandfather was an IH dealer at the time. The beaners came with the spike tooth and a huge sprocket to run the cylinder slow, rasp bars were an option on the grain rigs- we converted the 93 to a rasp bar, and left the 91 set up for beans most years, unless we had enough calls for custom work that we needed both for grain- the planetary steering came in real handy when you had a windrow that hung a little long coming off the Innes and curled onto the headlands. The beaners also had perforated sections on the elevator & auger housings to let the dirt sift out, with removable covers for grain- the beaners left a serious dust cloud behind them. I spent many an evening pulling those long rods out of the windrow pickup to change the broken spring tines- you wanted to pick up the windrow in the dead center of the pickup so it didn't have to touch the big auger vanes, went right up the head intake, so you always had to pull the rod out at least halfway- and you had to unbolt every one of the double tines to slide the rod out. And then I had to fix the broken tines on the Innes... Still got a couple scars on my fingers that haven't faded

You get different opinions, but, most prefer rasp bar with wheat and oats but spike tooth will work. Most prefer spike tooth is with soybeans but rasp bar will work. You definitely need manual to get proper settings whichever it has.
