International 234 Hydro

My friend was looking for a small tractor and we found an International 234 Hydro for $2800, he bought it on sight. Slick little rig with 1320 hours, diesel, very straight and dry. It is way too small for any of my needs. The older gentleman that had it traded it in on an Exmark ZTR, he was formerly using the 234 with a finishing mower. My friend wants to use it with a 4' rotatry mower to maintain some family land.

Tractordata has little info on this tractor other than some basics. I know it is an 18 hp and built in Japan. I could not believe it had a full cat 1 3-point! Can anyone else add to this?

Thanks,
CT

I bought one new in 1987 and still have it. Mine is hydro, diesel, 4WD and has a loader on it. I love this little thing and it will work circles around a 9N ford tractor. It will pull a 4 foot brush hog just fine. I have one for mine and use it some to mow bar ditches at the farm with sometimes 4 foot tall johnsongrass. That big of grass will definitely slow it down. I use mine mostly in the winter to clean snow off driveways for the myself and the neighbors. Mine has 350 hours on it. If you have any questions, I'll be glad to try to help.

I've got a gear driven 234 diesel I inherited from my Dad. I've got a rotiller and a finishing mower with it. Tractor has a lot of power for a small tractor. Not sure what is going to happen when I need parts.

"Bar Ditch" Now there is a term I bet alot of guys on this board haven't heard before. Whenever I use it, my wife (from MO) laughs. Must be a southwestern thing.

In western ND-eastern MT we called them "borrow pits". That was where dirt was "borrowed" from to raise up the roadbed.
My wife is from MN & didn't know what that term ment.

Thanks for the info. It seems like a very capable machine that would give an equal sized Kubota or Yanmar a serious run for the money. I'll turn him onto YT Mag, he has heard me talk about it before.
