Super H cranking problem

I recently purchased a 53 super H. When i got it the tractor started several times with no problems. After turning it off one day i went back to start about an hour later and it would not crank.I checked the battery and it seemed ok. I took the starter out and had it rebuilt. I charged the battery and put the starter back in and it still wount crank. It seems like the drive kicks out and gets stuck in the fly wheel. If i pull start it it will start. I figured the fly wheel being in another position the starter would work but it still does the same thing.
I would be thankful for anyones help.

You need 00 battery cables if its 6 volts and clean all connections until shiny including the area where its grounded. Have the battery load tested. I would put a battery charger on it overnight before doing that to make sure its fully charged. Did they install a new bendix starter drive when rebuilding the starter. Hal

something else to check too, pull the starter out and peek inside at the ring gear on thr flywheel. see if it is chewed up. not real uncommon. also while the starter is out , hook it up to the battery and give er a spin. see if the bendix is coming out too far and jamming at the end of the travel. if it comes out and spinning it back with your finger doesnt release it easily, you may need to add a machine washer between the end of the bendix and the starter nosecone.
