Farmall Cub

I posted on here a few days ago about the cub I added to my collection. The motor is stuck from sitting out for about a year. I soaked the crank and the pistons in pb blaster for about 3 days now and it still hasnt broke free yet. About how long do I need to let it soak and what else if there is anything could I do to help along the process? I have never had to do this before and aint quite sure so any information is helpful. Thanks Guys, Zach

The under side (crank) is not frozen. Unles it was living in water, then there is no recovery except complete rebuild.
Pulling the plugs and putting a half cup of auto trans fluid in each hole, then waiting for several days can be wonderful. Bumping the starter with a good battery will break it loose. Do not hold it on start, just repeated bumping for 14 second, repeated 5 to 8 times, then walk away. Watch the fan. if it begins to turn, do not continue to turn it. Remove the plugs and then try it. (oil does not compress, and needs to be free to leave through the Spark plug holes.)
Good luck. JimN

I have had luck by pulling the starter off. Then you can use a prybar to work the motor back and forth.
9 out of 10 times the valves will be stuck co you will end up pulling at least the head off.

You could be 5 minutes, 5 days, 5 weeks, or 5 years from coming loose there... It all depends on how badly rusted up it is.

Since the Cub is an L-head engine, you can remove it quite easily and get a look at the pistons and valves. Maybe clean up any rusty sludge in the cylinders...

Agreed, I'd want to pull the head off just to see what I was working with. You could then inspect the valves too while it was apart.

Some put the hand crank in it and put weight on it to hold tension on the crank. It could be any range of time based on the severity of the rust. The only problem with those is that they are not sleeved engines. Time and some mixture of oil and stuff will maybe break it loose. But as far as how long, it could be now it could be not in your lifetime. I would pull the head and check it out to see what you are up against.
