Is the 39 rearend faster than any other year, i mean 1st or 2nd gear or anything. I have heard a couple different things but have never gotten a certain answer, One more thing, is 2nd and 3rd gear (the actual gear)interchangable with any other year M? Thanks!

No the gear ratios are the same, the only thing you will find in a 39 is lighter narrower gears, and some 40 models also. If you are refering to the 2nd and 3rd sliding gear other models will work. Some of the other gears, no.

well the the gear in the middle which is the 2nd and third gear (the gear in the middle that is two gears as one) They are pretty chewed up on one side. I was wondering if I could stick a gear from any other year M in there or do I have to find another 39. Thanks

Thanks a bunch what about the gear that closest to the bell housing it it pretty big I think its first and reverse. Thanks a ton its a big relief that I don't have to find another 39

Transmission speeds are from the engine back: 5 is direct coupled to the input shaft, then 4,3,2,1,R. Reverse gear works of the idler gears in the back.

Gear closest to front on the top shaft is the belt pulley gear box drive and its part of the transmission input shaft. next one back is the constant mesh drive gear also part of the input shaft, next is 4&5 sliding gear, next is 2&3 sliding gear, next back 1& reverse sliding gear.
On the bottom shaft starting at the front. Constant mesh gear, then 4,3,2 and 1 gears that drive the ones on top shaft. Hope we were on the same gear in the other post the 2&3 sliding gear.
They are called sliding gears because they slide back and forth on shaft when shifting. I may have a good gear, can look tomorrow if interested.

there are three sliding gears when looking down inside the transmission, The middle sliding gear and the gear closest to engine are the ones that are chewed up, these are the ones that i need to know if they are interchangeable with other M's If they are interchangable i will be interested in your gears!

I don't have a good 4&5 sliding gear and that gear is different on tractors below serial # 13807. Constant mesh gear and 2&3 slider were the only 2 gears in a 39 transmission used above and below the above serial #. I never tried to interchange all gears in a 39 to make sure though, so could be mistaken.
