something fun

I was walking out of my shop the other night, heading for the house. The air was crisp, but not too cold, the moon shining brightly and the stars filling the sky. I stood there a minute, and decided that I wasn"t quite ready to go in. It was about 8:30 or so. I stepped in the front door and told my wife I was going for a tractor ride and would be back.....sometime.
Now I live about 6 miles from the closest town and its not a highly populated area. A nighttime tractor ride would be just the thing. I checked the oil and gas in my "40 H, checked the lights, made sure it was charging and took off. Made it about 4 miles and all of the sudden it developed a miss. A quick check by pulling a few plug wires told me the #2 plug wasn"t firing for some reason. Limped it back to the shed. Drats.
Its now 9:00 pm, but I'm still in the mood for a ride, so I change all 4 plugs and take off again, this time heading for a different town. I drove about 7 miles running about 3/4 throttle, and enjoying the night air. No street lights to spoil the view of the stars and cool enough there were no bugs to hit me in the face. I pulled into an all night gas station next to the interstate which caused a few strange looks from some of the southbound Chicago traffic. They REALLY thought they were in the sticks now. Even had one fella ask to take my picture. Just for the heck of it, I got myself an ice cream bar and sat there a few minutes. The local police officer, a buddy of mine, pulled in and made the comment that he wasn't at all surprised to see me there, having seen a shiny red tractor from several blocks away under the bright business lights. I visited with him a bit, then fired the H up and headed home. Probably the most relaxing evening I've had in months.
Talked to a few tractor bud's of mine, and we're considering a full moon tractor drive in the not too distant future...

Plan fast sgtbull, next Friday, September 4 will be the full 'corn' moon. Been some beautiful nights with lotsa' twinkle, twinkle in the sky here in SW Wisc. Capture some starry "tacters" - me thinks that is what Hugh's grandson calls them - and share the photos on this 'wunerful' board. Ya gots a good idea der den!
