I have one of the later models of LA 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 gas engines. And this one has a throttle lever behind the flywheel. I bought 2 earlier model LA's same horsepower and they do not have a throttle lever. How is the speed of the engine controlled? Do you turn the needle valve out more for the carburator, so it gets more gas? Or are my earlier engines missing the throttle lever. Thanks

I believe that change was made in '35. I have one like yours, so not that familiar with the earlier ones either. I think the early version had a knob or something similar located near there the lower end of the throttle lever is mounted on yours. It allowed setting the operating speed but wasn't something you could easily use to change speeds while in use. I guess you were expected to set it for the specific job then leave it alone.

Thanks for the help Jim. I think you i right I believe their is a spot down their that takes a screwdriver to adjust a plug or something.
