Did IH put more than one set of gears in a 46 H ? I have a nice little H that seems to really be geared down-I've had four Hs over the years and none moved this slow. thanks Lary

you could order a low low first. generally indicated by x1A on the serial tag there are other suffixes to but that is the most common one out there.

There was a low-low as Andrew said, and a 7 MPH 4th. Nothing else listed in the parts book. Tire size can affect speed. There is a possibility that the bull gears, etc were changed.

I heard that the pullers were into the W-4 ring and pinions. Why is that? I assume it has something to do with speed. No idea for sure though.

aqctually i think its the pinion gear not the bull gear that are diffrent. the idea back in the day was to have the standards the same speed as the row crops. so with 26" wheels they had to speed up the gearing in the standards to acomplish the same speed as the 38 on the h
