Look what Hurricane Bill blew into my yard!

I had been looking for a 300 row crop for a while now and found this gem yesterday. It basically runs and works but has several issues (apart from looking a little ugly). It has the IPTO, TA, and fast hitch. At the moment none of the gauges work (soon to be fixed), I want to relocate the battery to it's correct location (can anyone tell me how the battery cables are meant to be run?), the low side of the TA is out (I have a 300U for parts, can I swop the one from it in?). There are a couple of mysteries that I would like to sort out if anyone had any ideas. First the governor won't idle down properly unless you rev it all the way up and then slam the throttle shut. Secondly it has what sounds for all the world like diesel knock, though it seems to go away sometimes when using the hydraulics. It almost sounds like something rubbing against one of the fan blades. Once I start getting the mechanical stuff under control I'm going to swap the fenders for a set of clamshells and turn the rears around so they're dished out. Thanks, Sam

OK I'll ajust my statement a 300tri with out belt pulley attachment is the same, if you have one the ta out 300U will not work.

LOOKS good to me.
I wish Bill would come this way ..
bring me some rain..
(have had less tha 2" since APRIL 15)
another tractor would be nice also...

I think those flat top fenders look GREAT..
any idea what they are off of??
My 300 would like to have some..
I would trade ya straight up except my clam shells are NOT in goood shape :-(

We've had a fairly wet year here up until the last two weeks and since then it's been 30 deg C and very humid. I was very glad of the 4-5" of rain as my cistern ran out last week and the well went dry yesterday.

I'm guessing the flat tops are off a later IH as there is some red left underneath the black and the remains of lights in the front. I know they could be made to look quite good on that tractor, especially if they were lowered a bit and painted the same colour but the clearance is required for tire chains. The other catch is that about the only way to get on and off the tractor is to vault over the seat from the rear. I have a set of clamshells on a 300U that will probably wind up on there before too long.

With that said I have a buddy with an H that has a loader on it and we are thinking of putting them on it as he doesn't use chains on it, needs a place to mount lights, and I think I can use them to mount the spool valve and I want to build a hydraulic resevoir into one of them to get the existing converted fire extinguisher off the grill. I had that same rattle your talking about up front on my 400.The gear on the hydraulic pump was loose and got ruined.About 2 years after I fixed that I had another knocking noise I couldnt explain until it let go.That time the center busted out of the cam gear,so I put a new one in and its still going for now

Sam: The difference has nothing to do with Farmall versus Utility, but rather, is the Farmall equipped for side mount belt pulley.

I can't believe this coupler is not interchangable, been too many Utility 300's used as parts tractors for Farmalls. The whole rear cast chassis is the same, so the contents have got to fit. You may loose the belt pulley.

Hi Hugh, The Farmall I have has the belt pulley drive complete with the paper pulley and I would rather like to keep it. At the end of the day if it was an easy swap I'd try the one out of the Utility but as it's questionable anyway for the work involved I'll put in a proper reman. Thanks, Sam

Sam: Where is your well? I can't believe you'd have a dry well. You must be having wet T shirt water fights with those Musq. gals.

You'll notice the old road bed of the mid 1900s, follows the high ground in front of your house. When DOT built that new road across the flat, they had a hard time finding hard bottom. That whole flat is a floating bog.
