International 384

After redoing some older Farmalls I thought it would be fun to fool with a later model. Picked up an International 384. A real brute and having used it to shred a pasture, I discovered two things: its a real work horse and it also is a bear to maneuver in tight corners. Does anyone know if power steering was ever an option on this beast? I have all the manuals and haven"t seen anything to indicate it was available. Appreciate anyone working on one to share pieces, parts, knowledge and flustrations with me.

Good reply - dug through the parts book and found a section seperate from the steering section devoted to power steering. I have a feeling I jumped the gun on this baby and will have a lot of missing components. Does run good, body not bad, but a good deal of field "repairs and part substitutions" are evident. Looks like an all winter project! Thanks again

According to the brochure, it says that all 84 series tractors have hydrostatic power steering, except the 384, which has power assist.

Thanks Guys - I bought the tractor without realizing some enterprising individual had removed the steering hydraulic cylinder and associated linkage. After your comments I realized the associated plumbing on the right side was for the power steering and not another remote. Just another set of pieces to locate, rebuild and install. Anyone know where theres a 384 in a salvage yard or pasture in the North Central Texas area. Need the cylinder assembly and other two pieces of linkage. Thanks again for the comments - it did come with P/S when new.

You might want to try some Canadian salvage yards, I would bet there were far more 384's sold in Canada than in the US.
