Super H Oil Pressure Problem

Hi fella`s, I have a problem on a late `53 Super H that I use very, very little. I dug it out of the shed the other day because I want to use it at a plow day this fall to put a few hours on it.My problem is after it started, the oil gauge went all the way to the right and stays there even after the engine warms up.It never used to go that far to the right before,so I`m wondering what the heck happened. I tried putting a different gauge in thinking the old one may have went bad, but the new gauge shows it running at 60 lbs pressure, which is way more than it did and should be at. I`m at a loss at what happened . Would an oil passage have plugged up from sitting ? I`m open to any ideas. Thanks,Mark

Dunno,

Both my H and M run all day long at 60psi. The diesels all run at 75.

Allan, the only thing that worries me is it did`nt used to run at that high of a pressure. With that in mind,do you think it`s OK to run it this way and I should be alright and I won`t wreck anything? Thanks again, Mark

Ya , I know, I`d be alot more worried if it was way lower than normal too. It just seems strange to me that a tractor can gain oil pressure over the course of a year by sitting, that`s all.

There is a relief valve in pump that should relieve pressure at 60 to 70 psi, the valve may not have been seating before. A good tight engine will run up to relief valve setting.

I have a very late 1953, stage 2 Super H and the oil pressure needle goes all the way to the right (max). I consider myself one lucky devil.....

Run it, the oil pressure relief was stuck part way open with a piece of crud. Change the oil if you want to. 15-40 would be my choice. It is fine. JimN
