Salvagable Engine in a Farmall H

I have an H in which the motor was seized. My guess is it had been sitting for years and had water sitting in it. Anyhow, I stripped it down as best I could and sent it to a machine shop to be hot tanked. They also pulled the sleeves from the block and found cracks in the block along the cylinder wall in the number's 2 and 4 cylinders. The tech at the shop suggested they were the result of freezing of the coolant. I frankly don't know. What I don't like nor understand is their suggested fix. They want to mill all four cylinders and basically double sleeve them. This would come at a cost of about 2500, which is more than I paid for the tractor. Is there any other way to repair the block or should I just shop for another? I appreciate the feedback.

NO H IS WORTH $2500 IN ENGINE LOOK AROUND JUNK YARDS AND WATCH EBAY SOME GREAT RUNNING ENGINES ONLY SELL FOR LIKE $300-$600 FOR A COMPLETE ENGINE BE FOOLISH TO SPEND $2500 ON AN ENGINE FOR H WHEN YOU COULD BUY A COUPLE RUNNING H'S FOR THAT HERE IS A COUPLE NUMBERS TO TRY FOR AN ENGINE 651-307-1206 SCOTT IF HE DOESNT HAVE ONE ASK FOR NICK GRAVE'S NUMBER FROM HIM HE MIGHT HAVE ONE TOO GOOD LUCK

I agree with the others. You are much better off finding a new block. For instance, here is a block on ebay for sale for $200...

$2500 for that work is ridiculous. Of course they recommend that. That's how they have a good Christmas!

Thank you for the replies. I also thought that was way too much to put into a motor. I guess I'll have to start putting some money aside for another block.
