Farmall B sparkplug question

Hi Gang,

For my 1941 Farmall B with an H-4 magneto and a crank starter, I just got some Autolite 3116 spark plugs based on a recommendation I got here.

Now here's my question: I recall seeing, in two different places, two different recommendations for the spark gap.

Can anyone give me anything like definitive advice on the proper gap?

Is it OK to use needle-nose pliers to adjust the gap if it needs adjustment or should I get something else?

Also, is it relevant that I'm at 8,300 feet of altitude? (And in general, how does that fact figure into anything else I might be doing to adjust or maintain the tractor?)

Thanks as always!

Ross

Gapping with pliers is OK if you don't get into the center insulator and leave a metal smear. .025 to .026" is good. If it came from sea level to 2000 ft, it could be set leaner to run well. A smaller carb jet for the main , and a turn or so on the idle mix. (jets might be hard to find)
If it is from high altitude sales, it will be OK as is. Use copper core (real wire ) spark plug wire, or Magnetic Suppression wire. (coiled real wire around a core of fibers) These have no resistance to spark, and will do well. At 8000ft, it will have about 8 to 10% less power, but that is OK as they have plenty. JimN

If you've got a set of wire gauges for spark plugs, you should have one funny-shaped blade on it that is the tool for bending the tang to adjust the gap.
