SWD6 won't start.

My Super WD6 has sat for about 2 years and has not been started. Tried to get it going today. Some rust in the gas line so I opened up the lines and ran some gas thru until it looked clear. Tried to start it but no luck. Then I opened up the distributor and cleaned the points a little. Went back to start it and popped right off but died after 20 seconds. Since then I can't get it to fire at all. Need help. I'll clean the spark plugs tomorrow. What else do I need to try/

On any tractor that was simply driven to a spot, shut down, and left for X years, the MINIMUM you need to do is:

1. Drain all old gas and rinse out the gas tank with fresh gas.
2. Remove the carburetor, clean THOROUGHLY, install rebuild kit.
3. Replace points, condensor, rotor, cap, wires, and plugs.
4. Change the engine oil and filter before you even turn it over.
5. Remove and clean all heavy battery cable connections.
6. Charge battery.

Feel free to add anything I might have missed.

You can fiddle all you want but in the end you will end up doing everything I listed above to get the tractor running right, and probably more.

Mr Kirsch, that is excellent. I couldn't have said it better. ALTHOUGH I hate changing engine oil cold I also hate the thought of cramming crud into oil gallerys, etc.
I think this is probably what happened when he ran the tractor on gas. He drained the gas and crap in the line and then it rattled stuff loose in the tank when it started running and clogged up the carb. The carbs on these tractors are somewhat touchy (compared to gas tractors). Good luck, I think a through fuel system and electrical system tuneup/cleaning is due.
