Farmall Super A Touch Control Gauge

I am restoring a Super AV and had to replace the hydraulic unit. The one that was supplied and rebuilt does not have the touch control gauge. Was this an option? Should my 50's Super AV have the touch control gauge? Can I add it to a unit that does not have it?

Thanks for your advice. This is the second time I posted this question because I could not find the first post.

I'm sorry if they both suddenly appear.

I appreciate your advice.

Sam

You can add it if you want to. It is little more than decoration, or maybe a warning that something is plugged. They generally don't move, so I've heard. Neither of my C's has one, and the one on my Super A is old and worn out. Since it came with one, and the C's didn't, when I "restore" the SA, I will likely put one on it, even though it will be a waste of money.

I've got the gauge on the unit on my SuperC and I'v been able to heat it up into the run range on a hot day with a lot of lifting and lowering. So it will work. It never indicated anything like geting lose to overheating, but I like having it as a flag for any trouble.

The sensor unit screws into the filter screen cover on the side of the hydraulic block. The cover with the hole is eiter a special part, or the stock cover drilled and tapped.

The gauge mounts in a special bracket on the control cluster.

It sounds like you replaced, rather than rebuilt the original touch control. Why couldn't you just transfer the gauge and sensor from the original touch control?

The cover is made to the filter screen. The screen almost always has to be replaced because of holes in it if it is original to the tractor. Be sure to order a screen with the boss for the temp gauge sending unit if you need a new screen and you want to add the gauge. The gauge itself come with the mounting bracket.[/quote]

I had to replace the hydraulic unit because at some point in the past someone had put the wrong unit on the tractor. It had a hydraulic unit for a different tractor.

I had to find the correct unit and have it rebuilt. I was just concerned when I realized that the unit I purchased did not have the gauge.

It sounds like I am OK. I appreciate the feedback.
