hand crank starting mechanism

i'm in the process of switching upper bolsters on a farmall H because the original one was cracked. but the new bolster's hand crank starting mechanism is frozen up so i am trying to put the original one in the new bolster. how do i go about removing the mechanism? thanks

You will have to get it freed up before you can remove it, and once it is freed up it will then function as intended and there will be no need to remove it. Just spray it down with PB Blaster or whatever your favorite flavor of penetrating oil is and be patient. Every so often, tap on it with a hammer. It will come loose.

Rusty is correct but I also used a pipe wrench to try to get it to turn. A pipe wrench with a long cheater bar can do wonders for freeing up stuck round objects. Henry Not sure but I believe that there is a zerx fitting somewhere on the cranking shaft. Henry

Just be careful hitting the end of the handle end of that mechanism, we think that is what busted the bolster on our 300.
