Oil in SM brakes

I have oil in my Super M brake housing. I assume there is a seal inside that needs replacing. My question is how do I remove the steel plate that sets next to the housing? The inside brake disc contacts this plate also. I think I need to remove that plate to replace the seal. How do I remove the plate?

Once you remove the bolts that hold the outer brake housing in place, you should find a couple of machined "slots" on the outside edge that allow a large screwdriver or pry-bar to get under it. Just pry it out, working both sides a little at a time.

Here were the instructions given to me when I had to replace the oil seal on the brake shaft. I drained the transmission and replaced the transimssion oil at the same time.
remove the brake adjusting bolt then 5 bolts in cover and remove. Slide brake shoe from splines and seal is there in plate inside shoe rubs against. If you look for a parting line between plate and housing that supports differential and bull pinion you can find some slots to pry plate out. It has a snout to inside with an oring around it so most times it comes out kind of hard. When you get plate off seal is in it. Another way that I use sometimes is rig up a slide hammer to screw in the 5/8 fine threads in end of bull pinion shaft and bring shaft and plate out together. Shaft will slide right back in if wanted. Most places can match up the seals. If you need a new oring they are high from IH now. Used to get them from one local bearing supplier but they moved out of state and haven't had much luck finding them since. I hope this helps, I found that it was a pretty easy fix, I would also recomend replacing the oring when you replace the oil seal.
