I have a 300 IH Utility with live power, but it is about to the end of the adjustment. So, I will ask the gang if this can be rebuilt, and how difficult is it to remove the pto for rebuild?Another question is any ideas on where to look for parts! Thanks in advance.

Adrain: Yes it can be rebuilt. I have no idea on cost, haven't had one done for 30 years.

Removal is quite simple, find a spot where front wheels of tractor are about 18" lower than rear wheels. With front wheels lower you don't have to drain transmission. 4 bolts to take out to remove PTO unit. Inside you'll find a short shaft and two couplers, remove those if you intend to use tractor while PTO is being rebuilt. Nothing holds those in place, exept PTO.

If you want to use tractor while PTO is being done, cut a piece of 3/4" plywood to cover hole at back of tractor. Drill holes to match holes that hold PTO. Then use short bolts to bolt plywood on. I used big washers on those bolts. One cover fits all, from 300 to 560. I've run tractors steady for a week with the plywood cover. Keeps dirt and dust out of transmission even if tractor is parked.
 
I'll ad to hugh's good advice that crane and equipment repair shops, and some industrial brake shops can reline the bands rather cheaply. JimN
 
My uncle took the pto out of my grandfather's 300 ute so he couldn't get himself wrapped up trying to run something with it. It's been running with a plywood cover for 7 or 8 years.
