To change a fan belt on a super h do i need to get the radiator off the tractor or does the pulley unscrews far enough out to releive the tension off the belt to slip it over the pulleys. I just got this tractor and waiting for the books to come in for it. The first book i got don't explain this. What is the best book to get for this tractor. I got the it-8 book but very general for a lot off models. I need one more geared to this model tractor

The radiator does not need to be removed. You are correct in the method to loosen it, but you may be fighting some rust and it won't be as easy as it should, but it can be done. That IT manual is very good for general information, and even makes a good supplement to the IH shop manual which is what you need. You can order that manual from your Case-IH dealer or on the web at b-i-n-d-e-r books. Leave out the dashes.

I would add that a parts book really comes in handy also so you can see how things should be. Also an operator's manual, believe you can get all from the same source. It manual works good if you already know what you are doing and has a lot of good specs and settings.

The I&T manuals are really very good, but you have to read them very carefully. All of the information is there but nothing is repeated. When you go back and reread, you'll find it. This manual does assume you are a mechanic and gives no reminders or tips other than very specialized ones. The original service manual and operator's manual for an H has very little information.

Be sure to get the pulley threads clean and lubricated and loosen the set screw. Then tap on the boss's provided with a brass punch to move the pulley. As with a lot of things on these tractors, there is just enough room to get the belt off and back on. You might consider changeing the generator belt at the same time to avoid pulling the fan belt again.

Don't tap the pulley too hard! They break real easy, but the part is (was 2 winters ago) available, it costs about fifty bucks, just for the part. You then have to take the radiator off to install the new pulley half. Don't EVEN ask how I know about this. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
