Farmall 300 hydralics

the hydralics are weak in my 1956 300, about 600 psi. I replaced the screen and fluid. The screen had a 1"x2" hole in it. Could this have gotten into the pump and ruined it? Is there another filter in this system? Is there a way to check the pressure coming out of the pump before it gets to the controls?

The screen piece had to go somewhere. I would be worried about the dirt that went through the hole and wore out the pump. There is a way to check the pressure before the controls. Cut and weld a "T" in the pressure line before the controls (if you have the solid steel lines) or screw out the hose piece and put a "T" in their and add a guage.

boatsmn: I don't think I'd worry to much or waste time, checking pressure if a piece of that screen plus the dirt it holds back went into the pump. That screen is on suction side of pump, and once it lets go, the debries goes direct to pump.

I finally broke down and put in a new pump, cost approx $700.00. Now have 1500 pressure. Thanks for the replys.
