Starter Removal

Do I need to remove the belt pulley cover to get the 3 bolt starter off of my Super M ??? It just doesn't have enough rear clearance to come out.

If its gas with the original starter and cover on the pulley drive hole, it will come off easy. If its a diesel it may be close, but if the cover is original type I always managed to get them out.

Maybe I misunderstood, does it have a pulley gear box or just a cover over gear box opening. If it has a gearbox from a earlier tractor that could be a problem if its a diesel starter. Gear boxes were changed at left corner section to give more room on later ones. I can get one off a 52 MD if moved just right, so one should come off a SM with original parts.
