Help Please

New with my H. Power bogs down when brush hog gets into heavy grass. Put a new car. kit in still way off on the carb. adjustments. Any ideas on a good starting point for the carb. adjustments. I know not all are the same but if I had a good starting point I think I can fine tune, famous last words (I think). Thanks for your time Charlie

I'll let some others cover the carb. You may have some work to do there or not.

Does your H run and work okay otherwise? How big a brush hog? The reality of brush hogs is that sometimes you get into stuff where you just have to take a narrower cut to get through without bogging down.

Are the blades sharp and is the front of the mower lower than the rear and how high is the mower set as you mite not have a tractor problem but more of a mower problem

Others have talked about adjusting machine and smaller cut. A recent discussion under "Discussion Forums" (left side of page), I think covered starting place for carb. adjustment:

Good luck!

I would start with 2-3 turns out on load needle, and 1 and a half turns out on idle screw. Just make sure you have the engine at operating temperature when fine tuning.

If the tractor runs smoothly it is not the carb. Carb problems cause rough running. You may get slightly, emphasize the slightly, more power by opening the main jet screw 1/4 turn at a time. Otherwise with the engine warmed up and at WOT, turn the main screw in until it stumbles, then out until smooth, plus 1/4-1/2 turn. Idle jet at low idle, turn in and out until smooth, idle speed set to that it doesn't stall. My opinion is your grass is too tall. I can pull down an M with a 5 ft bushhog in heavy, tall weeds.

Like previously stated take a smaller cut, but your may need a new or more stiff governor spring. This is true of any Farmall that is used for more than parades or lawn ornaments. Springs loose their tension over time. Something that is easy to look into and cheap and easy to replace.
