I have a 1940 Farmall A, and I'm trying to make the seat a little more comfortable. Right now it just has the bare metal seat. Around the edges of the seat, about every 2" are about 3/16" holes. Would this have been original, or did someone drill them to put a seat cover on? I can't find any reference to this. I'd like to keep it somewhat accurate. Any help would be appreciated.

Those holes are not original. I use a piece of 2in foam then get a seat cover makes for a nice ride. You can get covers from 15 on up even can get one with the original type covering.

Some of the early letter series seats had a cushion that was held with fasteners (rivets I believe). I can't say whether your seat has IH drilled holes or something else.

When I restored a Farmall A in 1975 I used a seat off a junked forklift. It had a back rest & nice cushion. I went for comfort. Hal
