1949 farmall cub, gas is coming out of the carb as it is being cranked over,
although the float seems to be working fine! any ideas?
Stonestacker

If the float is working correctly to shut off the fuel when not running, it does not follow that it is set to the correct level. With the fuel shut off, pull the bowl off of the carb. Lift the float gently with your finger and open the fuel valve. Gently let off pressure (over a pan) and see when the fuel flows. The float should be able to be measured at that point to see where its level is. Measure as shown in the manual, I do not have the data in sight. If correct, the main metering jet might have fallen out, or (unlikely) the cam timing has slipped and the engine is blowing air out of the intake. Is there good suction on the air intake when cranking? if so it is probably in the float or float level. JimN

From your other post, you could have your plug wires on wrong as well. 1234 from radiator back, order is 1342.

I took the bottom of the carb loose and measured it and it was off, the manuel says 9/16 to 5/8 from center of float to the top of fuel bowel
so i got it as close as i could and the same thing, it tries to start, but is still
running gas out of the air intake as i crank, i have put a rebuild kit in it,
do you suppose i need a knew carb? thanks Bill.

About 2
years ago i atempted to adjust the timing, i timed it to the mark on the fan
pulley , it got pretty gutless, it dose not backfire so it cannot be to far out
of time, anyway, could that be my carb problems? thanks again Bill.
