Cub Eng. rings

I never did a ring job on a Cub but you should be able to just remove the oil pan and head and get to work.

When you get the pistons out you should push your new ring in the cylinder and measure the ring gap.
The compression rings should be between .007-.017". The old one piece oil ring is .007-.015".
They're probably now using the 3 piece set with 2 rails and an expander. You need to use a ridge reamer to remove the ridge at the top of the cylinder so you don't break a piston. I would use a glaze breaker on the cylider walls too. I would prime that oil system before you make a start to make sure you have oil pressure. If that block is sludged up I would pull the engine and take a look at that oil pump & have the block cleaned. You probably should have the crankshaft measured for wear. Hal
