Hitting a brick wall looking for studs for the head on my H. Have a couple that are stripped off from prior disassembly. You guys have been great so far so does anyone know where to get studs from?

They are 7/16" diameter, 6" long and NF one end NC on the other. I have not tried the dealer cause I don't have much faith in the local one but will if I have to.

If you don't want to deal with the dealer you can call ARP.
ARP is a leader in studs.
They are better than alot of other suppliers because they are threaded after they are hardened. This makes for a very strong thread.

I checked the IH site and it said there were 2 different sizes used on the H head. The first is part number 45009D, which is discontinued, and listed as 5-15/16" long. The second is listed as part number 48939DA (still available) and it is listed as being 6-1/8" long.

I have used Grade B7 threaded rod to make head studs before. This steel very closely approximates a Grade 5 bolt. I ordered it from McMaster-Carr

The studs are still running in a Continental flathead engine in one of my forklifts. The way I use it is not quite the duty cycle of a tractor but I don't see a good engineering reason why it should not work. The torque specs will probably have to be adjusted if the stud is all coarse thread and the original setup used a fine thread.

How far away are you from the Wisconsin border? There are a couple junkyards that might have them 1/2 hour from IL border.

I order my parts through www.external_link you just go into the parts section and type in Farmall H then select it from there. Then you just open the section you need and check the boxes you need to add to cart.

For future reference what boneyards are you speaking of? I am from Wi and visit often enough so could be a good place to get stuff for future projects.

The H and M originally used 2 studs that are 1/8" longer, where the throttle rocker assembly mounts onto the top of the head, thus the remaining studs in teh head where shorter. I see they quit offering the short studs and only the long studs, which is fine it just leaves more stud ontop of the head.

ARP is the best place to get studs and nuts, and if you really want the best purchase their flat washers to place under each nut, this way you get really even torque. I have purchased several sets for an M and they are top notch and cost less than buying from the dealer.
