1. Hard steering, If I have a load on the carryall, or jack the front just a bit it turns real easy.. No sloppy steering..
2. Will my centermount sickle mower for my Super A bolt up to it? The Super A is a 53, the 140 is a 73.
Thanks,
Hoop

If there is a grill guard, make sure the tie rods aren't binding in it. Otherwise, those tractors are know for slop in the steering, but I've never seen one hard to steer. May have to pull the steering box apart.

The mower should mount up fine, but I think there was a little difference in the rear bracket depending on if you had a fast hitch or not. May have to do a little fabrication there.

Is there a bearing where the wheel ,hub assembly pivots for turning, If I take just a bit of pressure off the center of the axle it pivots fine, just looked at the tie rods, no binds..

Hoop: That 140 vertical tube and spindle were never as good quality as the older SA, 100 or 130. My 140 is the same, put a 400 to 700 pound implement on hitch and it steers like a dream. I tried greasing it until grease ran down the spindles, still no better.

I've owned 3 Super A's, 2 - 130's two of those with 10 times the hours my 140 has and the steer they same load or no load on hitch. I believe it's just timing when IH decided to nickel and dime things. My 130 is roughly 10,000 hours and 140 I'm doubtful if it's seen 1,000 hours. I'd hate to see my 140 after it's done the hard work that 130 has.

One of these days, I going to pull those spindles and see why. When I jack 140 front wheel, spindle can move 3/16" up and down in tube. My Super A and 130 don't do that. It has to be thrust of tube on spindle. I've never had my older ones with many more hours apart.

if steering gear box isn't damaged from water bad bearings or seal leaking all the oil out drain existing oil and replace with stp oil treatment or similiar product done this to a SA made a big difference
