Looking at a 786 with a new clutch (asking $12,500 Can.) Any good/bad areas to consider? Were these good tractors???

Thanks Jimmy!! How are you doing these days? I'm a lurker over at the "other"board and haven't figured out how to post over there yet. Still alone here, have had some health issues, but am getting a new lease on life. Hope you're doing the same.

I feel they are a nice tractor, but, remember, all them instruments etc that the cab normally protects do no like their exposure to mother nature and seem to suffer much more than previous models. Just my experience with them.

The 786 was introduced to give IH a row crop tractor at 80 PTO hp. At the same time the 886 went from 86 to 90 PTO hp. Essentially, the 786 was a turned-down 886. Both models had the same features and had the same options offered (MFD and full cab). I think units for full cabs for either model were less in quantity than those sold on 986,1086 and the larger models.
Ran one at the college farm when I was in school (It was maybe a year old). Overall, I liked the way it handles and performed. I never heard the farm manager complain about it. If a bunch of students with different operating habits can not hurt a tractor, that says a lot for it.
If you are used to IH tractors from that time, you will find it likable. The only negative may possibly be the 358 motor does not have the raw power like the 414's, 436's do.

Thanks so much for the input fellas!! We've always been Ford fellas, but this 786 really looks good.
