I have a 10-20 and 4 regulars that all have cork floats in the carb. I had problems with gas running through carbs can't stop the leaking.
I dressed the needles and they seem to stop the flow but after sitting it over flows and leaks.
Have pulled all corks the past winter and coated with bulls eye white shelac. They don't seam to be putting enough pressure on needle to stop flow. Is there no choose but to buy new corks every time the gas mess's them up? I like these old girls but can't keep putting new corks in every year. oldiron29

I think that the the amount of ethanol that they are blending with gasoline dissolves the shellsc and gives the cork a shorter life.

Hi
My neighbor has a 12 20 that they bought new in 1936. It had a cork float. When we got it out of his shed after sitting for 20 years, the cork float had shriveled up and was all out of shape. A friend suggested a steel float out of a briggs and stratton engine which is also a dough nut shape. We soldered it to the original stem of the cork float and it has worked great ever since.
