706 quick hitch and pulling a load

I just got the new to me 706 gas home last night. I have yet another question. I will be pulling this land shaper / leveler behind it form time to time. Yes I could pull it from the draw bar but the fast hitch would be a very nice option to pull from. Is the fast hitch durable enough to pull a load like that from?

Guys pulled 4 bottom plows with the fast hitch all day for years and they held up.

Only problem I see is there needs to be down pressure or locked solid for up and down on the drawbar to keep that scraper in the ground.

Maybe there's enough weight that down pressure is not needed.

The fast hitch is designed to pull a 5 bottom plow. It can handle your land shaper easily. It can handle any load the tractor is capable of pulling.

What is the reason you want to attach it to the fast hitch? It's got a drawbar clevis on it. Why not hitch it to the drawbar?

The drawbar draft control should provide the needed down pressure. The draft and height controls for the drawbars were used to keep the front of the plow level. (Extensive youth experience plowing with 656 4 bottom and 706 5 bottom fast hitch plows)

Thanks everyone for the fast replies. Why do I want to pull from the hitch? Pinning the road travel wheels would be easier. Now I have to find a high spot to place the steel gauge wheels on to adjust the travel wheels. Other than that I think I will have to alter either the drawbar or the hitch on the land shaper to get the right heigth.

The 706 we had had no down pressure.

The arms would float up if the load pushed up on it. Same as the 3 points on the 66 and 86 series tractors.

A plow would always pull the arms down when going forward.

The draft controls on the 06 series tractors & later doesn't provide any down pressure. It senses load changes and lifts the hitch to compensate for the load change. Pushing the draft control lever to the lowest point simply diasble the sensing sytem so it wouldn't lift the hitch when the load changed.

The lift cylinder for the 06 seires and later tractor is a one way cylinder. 400-560 tractors had a 2-way cylinder on the fast hitch. We had a 450 & a fast hitch blade for it & the fast hitch would literally pick the rear of the tractor off the ground with the blade.

Good explanation of draft control. So many do not understand what actually takes place when using it and the fact that there is no down pressure with the single action cyl used on these hitches.

If your 706 doesn't have a fast hitch drawbar and you have to get one be sure to get one of the later ones. The earlier ones for a 300 or 400 were way lighter. Try to get one for a 706 or an 806.
