So I"m getting ready to order a new seat for my H. what are your thoughts on silver vs red/white in either canvas or vinyl for a replacement? What is more comfortable and durable. Also who has the best price on the tilt style seat?

Ihave a SMTA with the silver canvas seat and it looked great.... for about 3 days. Got'er bolted on and then started working on this or that, and your hands get dirty(reguardles of how well you wipe them off) you climb up and the first thing you do is grab the back of the seat and get a greasy hand print on it. 2nd thing especially if you don't have the flip-over hinge, weather, dust, and birds are going to add to your woes. My seat , other than some staining is in good condion wear wise but when the day comes to repalce it r/w vinal is going on. As far as comfort goes pretty much the same cusion in both but I've wondered for a while if the 460/560 standard seat with the small back support is a 4 bolt pan pattern. they're twice the price but may be worth it.

If you plan on using the tractor in the field DO NOT get a seat with brass eyelets in it.

I'm thin and those are very noticable when mowing the lawn on my A.

Black canvas is original on the earlier models, and then silver canvas. Red and white vinyl was never original but those do look good, are easy to clean, and seem to hold up quite well.

I think the price of a complete seat is now right at $100 or so?

If you want something less costly that still looks good and is durable you can go with a snap on vinyl cover in either silver or red and white. The covers come with a new foam cushion and cost only $30.

I agree 100% with Gene. Silver is original. Mine has one brass ring in the middle and on an H or M you will never know it's there as you sit on it. I see red/white seats on "restored" tractors and it makes me cringe.

Years ago we put a "deluxe" seat for a 560 on a Stage II SM. We had to weld the base of the seat to the top of the battery box but it made for a much better ride than the original seat.

(quoted from post at 06:36:22 07/30/09) I"m 99% sure I want a silver canvas seat. where can I get the best price?
I don't know. Someone will need to shop around for the very best price and it may as well by you, since it is your project.....

You mention the "best" price...do you mean the lowest price?
OEM has a silver canvas seat for $113. Their phone is 800-283-2122. Wouldn't hurt to talk to them. Ask for their parts catalog. I'm sure there are other suppliers "out there". LA in WI

I bought a silver canvas seat last Friday at the red power show from OEM for 75 bucks. The display said $85 but the girl charged me 75 and I didn't have the strength to argue after walking around there all day, lots of stuff to see and that's a good looking seat.
