450 Hydrualics question

I have 2 good working pumps for my 450 and neither one will work...just put new gears in the front of the engine and lock-tited the cam nut on to make sure it would not back off (this was #1 reason for taking front cover off tractor) after swaping out the pumps i pulled the cover on the preasure block, cleaned it up made sure the piston was free and that the orface/screen was not plugged. fired it back up and still no luck, its not pulling the tractor down and you can tell there is no preasure. Where else do i need to check?! thanks!!!

Tractor has new hytran and a good clean filter screen.

When I did the pump on my 300, it wouldn't prime. I removed the pressure line and placed it in a bucket. Sarted the tractor, ran for two seconds then flow started. Reconected pressure line and worked fine. Tip from my son in law.

which line is the preasure line? when i swapped pumps i had oil in both of the return and supply metal lines that bolt onto the bottom of the pump.

If you have the rigid steel lines, like my 400, the smaller diameter line is the pressure line. The larger line is the supply line. To prime mine, I took the set screw off the pump that is over the relief valve and kept adding HY-TRAN until if would not take anymore. It will drain down a few times before the lines are full. Just be sure that the setscrew does not get cross threaded, because it does not sit in the housing straight or flat. I wrecked one that way.

well i pulled out the plug on the top of the pump and now i'm getting oil to very slowly come out of the outlets and preasure block (needs a new gasket after taking it apart) but no preasure and its still now pulling the tractor down. I'm thinking i need to put my other pump on, bleed/prime and try again.

If everything else is working properly the symptom you describe is a classic relief valve sticking. I am not familiar with your tractor. Find the relief valve and loosen the plug or the valve assembly and start the tractor. Move the hydro controls slowly back and forth until fluid leaks out. Tighten valve or plug and see what you have.
