F-12 gas tank / hood question

The person I bought my F-12 from had started to paint and restore it. he put the decals on the gas tank, with the F-12 on the bottom. He also used the 1 1/2" double sided foam rubber gasket material that you use on a truck cap in place of the cotton webbing between the straps.

Needless to say, I have taken the tank off, stripped and repainted it. I also got new webbing from Rice Equipment, and new decals.

Here are my questions:

1.) On the front of the tank, should I place webbing between the hood and tank, then another piece between the hood and strap? OR just a piece between the strap and hood? I am thinking I should put webbing between both, but want to be correct.
2.) I had a hell of a time getting the large decals on, and in fact ruined one. the 2nd one is OK, but not great. The small F-12, and patent decals went on just fine. Any "been there, done that" guidance on getting the large decal on without screwing it up?

ps. the seller of the decals is sending me 1 large one to replace the one I destroyed during the miserably failed installation attempt.

thanks for any feedback here.

Tom, I was told by Gordon Rice the webbing is doubled over under the tank and than around in one piece. Tank and hood metal to metal webbing over hood under strap. When I put my large decal on I put a piece of that blue painters tape on straight where I wanted the decal bottom. to follow as a guide to set the decal. Because you dont get a second chance. oldiron29

I found that it's far easier to put the decals on with the tank off of the tractor. IT was a cold winter's night project with the tank on my lap in the living room. Of course the tank has to be completely free of gas smell, lest you incur the wrath of your wife. I measured everything to insure that the decal went exactly in the center of the side of the tank and marked the edges with masking tape. I did put a strip of webbing between the hood and the tank, just to prevent paint scatches if the tank ever needs to come off. Don't know if it's correct or not, but looks fine.

Tom, She does look good! Do you have a #90 mounted plow I see you have the sproket on the rear. I am going to RPRU 2009 mabe I can get a hat and suppenders like you have that looks real nice. oldiron29

Before removing the decal backing, tape it to the tank with a strip of masking tape along the top or bottom edge. When you are happy with the placement, use the tape as a hinge to fold back the decal and remove the backing. Then carefully hinge the decal back into position working out any air bubbles as you go. The soapy water can help with this, it only takes a couple of drops of dish soap in a glass of water. Good luck, Ed

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Here is the result:
