This was my 3rd RPRU and it was a barn burner. Now I know where all the SMTA's are - Wisconsin and Illinois! There were at least a dozen. Don't mean to zero in on the only negative, but they were charging $3.25 for a $ .79 bottle of water!!!! That is criminal - or maybe even a peace-time atrocity against fellow American citizens!!! Someone said the price was mandated by the Alliant Energy folks who owned the facility. Maybe so, but it should have been negotiated in the contract. Future host chapters please take note.
No problem. I brought in a cooler the 2nd day and gave water away to thirsty folks. Other than that it was a good 'un.
Took LA in WI's advice and went to Tony & Franks for a great burger and Lienenkugle (sp?) beer, or two, or three.... OK, four. So good went back again the next evening. Ah! Those brats were good too!
Left Sat AM and drove west out of Madison into Iowa and saw a beautiful M pulling a wagon load of hay from a field. What a great shot of a really nice looking M still doing its job on the farm. That made the trip totally complete. See you in LaPorte, IN in 2010!

I think you are mistaken, water and soda were 3.50, a double cheese burger was 7.00 I ate in the camper. 5lb of ice was 5.00, Wally World was 2 miles away.

Yes, drinks and food were expensive, but that was not Chapter 4.

I think we should all give a big "THANKS" to all that put this together. Good Job. Special recognition to Guy Fay and Mike Schmudlach for chairing this event.

The camping fee was a little out of line also, same fee for rustic, with power (15 amps), with power & water, all the same price $35.00. If you were lucky, you had enough room to open awing.

As I stated, it was a great show. Food and water prices were the only negative to an otherwise perfect time.

Lienenkugel, Miller owns them. I was there Wednesday some after 8; good burger/raw onion and a couple dark brews. My water came from the restroom faucet in my coffee mug. I can't figure out people buying water unless it has coffee grounds - $2 for maybe seven ounces at RPRU, or barley/yeast/hops in it. Had three 'Big Bars' and I thought that was reasonable at an event for $2.75; and they were big. Heard 'Big Bar' ice cream folks were told by energy center they should not be selling their product so cheap. The old restored Chevrolet vending van was an eye catcher for business, although the vendor in the parts parking lot - female - got my business. Their schedule on the web site has them at some other old iron events. I'll have to remember that Fort Atkinson ice cream for a drive some day. Driving to Iowa, can't figure that out either, grin. Nice to see old Farmalls working ain't it!
Big Bar, includes IH delivery vehicle

Some of us ate there wednesday, the next day I think most of us skipped lunch, then Friday we had Papa John's deliver.

Someone said that a parts vendor was selling water for 1.50, or 50 cents if you bought something. We kept kool-aid in a cooler for those of us on the f-20 project

Those prices are pretty much in line with what consessions charge in arenas, stadiums, and convention centers. When you've got a captive audience and no alternatives, it's surprising how many people will pay that much.

There isn't as much profit in it as you'd think, though. Every person that puts their hand on that bottle of water needs to be paid, and those bottles get handled several times between the loading dock and you. Even at minimum wage, that's a lot of payroll. Plus you've got upkeep on the facility, heating and/or cooling, and if there's a profesisonal sports team involved with the facility, hoo-boy... Plus there's got to be some left for the owner at the top who's bankrolling the entire operation, else there would be no point to even having the facility...

Sure, mister 'tractor expert'; you had to come along and make economic sense to our ranting. I would give you my vote to take the place of the economic dolts in D.C. Now get busy and straighten this country out, times a waistin'. But I still won't pay for additive-less water. Did I mention those 'Big Bars' sure were good. Maybe when Crazy Red has had his nap and got his tractor running, he will be able to sooth the hunger for red iron pictures that those who couldn't make the show, are yearning for so bad. Get your red out and drive it, with any luck, winter is coming!

Mike: Two items my dad always claimed were free, 60 years ago, water and good air. We sure screwed those two up.
