problem is the cub pto spins the opposite way and it runs at engine speed. what ever implement you hook up to it will run backwards.

The good news is yes. The bad news is they're very expensive. I can't quote a price. Hub City Gear has a gear box that slips over the Cub PTO shaft, reduces the RPM to 540, and reverses the rotation. I think it centers the output shaft too.

Goto the PTO section of their website. You can order direct or go through any bearing supply house. I hope it is still in production.

Basically, there are two adapters as described above:

1. A gearbox that reverses the PTO and slows it to the standard 540 RPM. These can only be found used, and are very rare and expensive.

2. A sleeve that fits on the 10-spline shaft and is 6-spline on the outside. You can still find these, and they are cheap. The only problem is that the PTO still spins backwards, and at 1800RPM.

If you are trying to run regular PTO equipment, then #1 is your only choice. #2 will ruin anything you try to run, and might even damage the Cub.

#2 is only useful if you have a Cub implement that is missing the PTO shaft. New shafts with the 10-spline hub don't seem to be available. With the sleeve you can use a regular PTO shaft.

You can build a two gear gearbox pretty easily to reverse the speed and the direction however you still don't have much power from a Cub. a belly mower for a Cub is the best bet and takes the 1,800 RPM input.

I saw one of those Cub PTO adaptors at RPRU last week. I figured it was so expensive I didn't even want to ask the price. I have the belt pulley on mine and don't want to pay big bucks for that unit. Roger

Call you local Case/IH dealer and give them the part number I provided above. They were still available from Case/IH as of a few years ago. At that time I think they were under $20-.

That is for the adapter sleeve, not the gearbox.

The original post asked about the sleeve converting the Cub"s PTO to a standard PTO.

I"m not sure why the topic turned to the PTO gear reduction/direction change.
