Hi guys, I Purchased a B414 Tractor with a box blade for a pretty good price, because I recently bought a house on 5.1 acres. I took the box blade off of the tractor and hooked up a bush hog, when i went to engage the pto it did not move and started making a grinding noise and i quickly disengaged the pto, if i un hook the drive shaft for the bush hog and engage the pto the pto will engage and move with no noise or any problems, Everything else on the tractor works fine, it lifts the 3 point hitch with no problem, shifting into drive and reverse is no problem. the only thing wrong is the grinding when the pto has somthing hooked to it. Do you guys have any idea what this could be? Thanks, Chris.

If it's a dual clutch the pressure plate splines or the PTO shaft splines could be worn out. You can check this out through the 4 bolt hand hole cover under the clutch housing. Otherwise the splined coupling that actually engages the PTO to the rear shaft may be worn out and need replacing.

If it is The clutch warn out or the other part on the shaft warn out where is the best place to find parts ?

That's very common in B275s and B414s. If, one engaged, your PTO the dual clutch, the PTO clutch often drags, or gets stuck engaged altogether. Also, the mechanical PTO linkage gets wear.

When the PTO is engaged, does it stop when you push the clutch pedal all the way in? If not, the PTO clutch is stuck. I've got one B414 I've been using for many years like that. To engage the PTO, I throttle it down and turn the engine off while holding slight pressure on the PTO lever. When the engine is almost off, it slides in fine - and I then let it come back to life, or restart to use the PTO.

All my B275s and B414s have done this, one time or another. I've pulled a few apart (split), took the clutches apart and fixed. Then, a few years later, it would happen all over again. So now, I just use as-is. Still works a heck of a lot better than a tractor without live power.

Clutch being "worn out" may not be the cause of the symptoms, as you describe. Broken Belleville spring, or something stuck more likely.

That being said, you can get just about any part across the counter at the IH/Case dealer. I've gotten both disks, Belleville spring, individual pressure plate fingers, etc. direct from Case/IH with no problems. Most dealer parts come in Mahindra boxes, since that is who makes most of the replacement parts (they made some of those tractors). Also, many aftermarket parts available on this website.
