running first time in 15 years, ran a minute popped

hey Guys, its been a long while since I have been on here. Had me my first born in the mean time! I bought me another M. this is a "43 model with the magneto. I cleaned the points and restet them to .015" and pulled the plug on the upper manifold, cranked and sprayed gas, got it running. It sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders. As I was running around to get the water hose to put some water in, she let out a flame outta the exhaust and popped and died. I cannot get it to fire like it wants to run. It will pop and blow a few flames. I will mention that I took the bolw off and cleaned a little, but like I say it did run up to a minute, also acted like it was trying to run on all 4, just couldn"t. I did see when I was turning it over, the dist. cap was shifting side to side a little. Old cap and roter but seems to spark outta each one. Can ya"ll help?

Have you checked the timing?

i began to check it, but it got dark on me. I rolled it to #1 had compression and took the cap off and seen it was close to #1, besides, is it possible for it to jump out of time while running?

It is possible for it to jump out of time, but not without causing MAJOR engine damage. We're talking about broken gear teeth under the front cover of the engine or in the distributor itself.

Unfortunately, there is no magic cure here. You're just going to have to start pulling things apart and looking for problems. Do a compression check. Pop the valve cover off and make sure all the valves are moving.
