Farmall 400 Tach Drive

The Farmall 400 I'm working on has a tach and cable mounted but the distributor base had a plate covering the tach drive hole. I can feel a small gear on the dist. shaft. I bought a tach gear and housing. The gear shaft has a metal shaft. When I installed the gear and housing, the gear seems to pull forward out the housing.

Is there a gear retainer to prevent the gear from going forwards?

Thanks

If it is the same as a 300, the housing is ecentric, so you would turn the housing to take up all the slack in the gears, then back off just a little before installing the retainer.
