super m disc brakes

There isnt some sort of threaded rod that you can adjust on the linkage going to the brakes?, i have never worked on super m brakes but all other IH disk brakes i have worked on have had an adjustment

Take it apart, clean the rust off the iron discs, and the shine off the fiber discs. I had to do this on a regular basis on my 300. A lot of rust formed, especially in colder climate that sees a lot of condensation. It makes those brakes virtually useless.

Yes, there is an adjustment. Look closely at the rod going into the housing and you see the adjusting nut, it's pretty straight forward.

We had to machine the both the outer and inner housings to get a flat surface for the discs. Also, we milled .010 - .012 off the mounting surface of the outer housing to make up for the wear and machining.

Once we replaced the discs, springs, balls, and one actuator set; our SMD stops on a dime (a big one, but at least it stops now). It was only about a $600.00 repair!

Dave's right. The only thing i might add is to take a little fine emery cloth and polish the grooves the balls slide in. Just make it a part of your regular maintenance about once a year or sometimes twice depending on how much moisture the tractor is around. I've replaced some of internal parts and etc., but it didn't matter, still need cleaned with regular maintenance.
