Flipping tires

Is there any downside to fliping the tires and rims on my H backwards, it would make the stance wider for a narrow front, im not trying to fit it imbetween rows i just think it looks better this way and i was wondering if i have something to worry about

I"m told they were shipped by the factory with the wheels flipped inward so as to be more narrow for strapping to railroad flat cars, etc. Most dealers flipped them outward because it looked better.

When you flip them outward, don"t forget to keep the tires going in the right direction for traction. Either flip the tire/hub combos side to side at the same time you flip the hubs, or demount the tires and reverse them on the hubs.

Personally, I would plan on demounting the tires from the hubs, simply because the tire/hub combo gets pretty heavy. I"ve got an A-frame hoist, so weight doesn"t bother me too much.

Are you talking about front tires or rear tires. The front tires are non-directional but the rear tires have an arrow on them that needs to be pointed in the direction of forward travel. Armand

We had an H with a #31 loader on it. Ran it for years with the front wheels set out as wide as possible so it wouldn't ball up in the mud. The tractor and loader were used every day in the worst conditions loading ensilage to feed over 300 head of cattle. Never had a problem with the front end.

The early NF's were not adjustable. I got used to looking at them that way in the 40's and 50's, even after the variable spacing came out and think the wide stance looks wierd. The wide stance is useful if you have to straddle an unplanted row while cultivating. Other than mud, I see no other reason for it. You can do as you please, I think it will make steering harder.

From my experience working on rough ground with a 300, I had more problems with getting the steering wheel jerked out of my hands with the narrow front set as wide as I could. It seems the clumps of dirt would steer the tractor for me, so in my opinion, I would keep it narrow, or find a wide front (I found a wide front).
