Farmall A Charging system

My 47 model farmall A is not charging the battery. Generator has been checked and is working fine. I want to replace the cut-out relay with voltage regulator. I have magneto. Can I make this change?

Yeah, you can change it to a VR but they seem to be a lot of trouble. I'm into the third one and still no charge. The rubber on the VR's break if looked at wrong and parts keep falling off of them. I would give my eyeteeth for a good cutout. Henryt
