Just purchased a B. Owner didnt know if it was converted to 12V. Came with a 12V battery hooked to neg ground. Started and ran good. Tried to start yesterday, cranked twice and quit. Neg battery terminal gets hot and starter gets warm. Battery is charged. Advice?

Take off the erminal and clean the surfaces. Look at the cable connection, and cable. The cleaning is to bare metal. JimN

might be the starter stuck,in a bind.My H does that once every 3 or 4 years during a rain or snow it seems.fix for mine is usually loosen starter, until it is almost off, shake it some, hit starter to make sure spins, slide back together and tighten bolts.
the real fix is to replace some parts but I am a cheapskate, and wont spend unless I have to.Good Luck

Thanks Jim. I failed to mention that I did clean both terminals and cable connections to bare metal. I will clean connections to starter and ground and give that a try.

Thanks Dave. I'll give that a try as well. Start seems to want to move, twitches a bit. Could be bound up.

Just put the tractor in 4th, grab a wheel and start rocking. If the starter is bound up it will pop loose.

Or, just use the hand crank on the engine to pop the starter loose.
