Oil Galley Cleaning

Farmall-A. I may be faced with cleaning the galleys as oil is leaking from the canister, and it may or may not be simply a gasket issue. Any air-pressure tricks to do this or is open-heart in order?

The canister will leak if a second Square section ring is placed in the Base groove. Or if the old ring is used more than 20 times. The old ring needs to be taken out with a dental pick. It will look just like the real castiron, but isn't. If the pressure is good, and you change the oil, the cleaning is not needed. if it has 6 year old non detergent in it you do. JimN

Whew - just a gasket issue after all. The previous owner had three stacked up in that channel. All cleaned out and a new gasket (one only) and we're good to go.

Wondered if that might be it.

Neighbor of mine just got his first Farmall. Definitely gonna need pistons and sleeves for a start. As prep for us lifting and putting the motor on a stand, I was stripping stuff off of it and asked if he had any picks. He's a seasoned big-truck mechanic, and he thought I was nuts when he watched me go into that groove, but his jaw dropped when I dug that gasket loose and worked it out of there. They look like iron and they're not much softer when you go diggin' at 'em.

Glad to hear that fixed it.
