Autolite 3077 spark plugs

Reading thru past threads, Autolite 3077 plugs seem to be a favorite for an F-20. Ordered & purchased some today.

Question: I am assuming the spark lead is SUPPOSED to lay along side of the electrode, instead of being gapped off the end of the electrode like more contemporary plugs? And why is it done this way? Better for lower voltage spark systems?

Thanks ........

Pete

i went with a hotter set of plugs for my w-9, and they also have the same electrode set up. pretty weird when i opened the box. but yup, the gap is off to the side. dunno why.

Have had great luck with them is my F-series tractors and their W-series counterparts.

My guess for their design is that a "Hotter" mag will give you a longer spark. One of my rebuilt mags will create a spark that jumps 3/8 of an inch. The 3077s will take advantage of this greater spark -- my 2 cents worth!!

the gap tends to stay the same as plug wears off if they are designed like outboard plugs. haven.t seen one so don.t know
