140 Ground Question

Working on a 140 (+12 volt generator with key switch start) and have a problem with the front lights.
We are missing the ground connection for the front lights. Suspect the gnd wire broken or making poor contact with frame.
Would anyone happen to know where the ground(return)wire from the front lights attaches to the frame(ground)? Hopefully the service manual which we need to get ordered will have wiring diagrams along with the ground points.

thanks in advance ...

BMD: What is your serial number. 140 had 4 different wiring scheematics during it's production run. One 6 volt and three 12 volt. I have the serial breakdown on changes and wiring diagrams for each one.

Serial is 58845. Should be 76 model. It has key start switch and 12v generator.

What I need to find out is where the ground connection for the front lights is attached to the frame. It either corroded or broken loose failing to provide a good ground for the front lights.

Failing to find the connection I am going to splice into the ground wire and run a new ground to frame somewhere convenient.

thanks

BMD: That ground has to be between front lights and voltage regulator. That wiring harness does not have straight through wires past the regulator, or at least mine didn't. Now, my 140 is not in same group as yours however from the diagrams that part looks the same. Problem for me with diagram, it does not identify ground wire, but there is two wires to each light. The older SA, 100 and 130 relied on light mounting for ground.

I rewired my 1966 (born with gen but no key start) when I was about 18 and I am 55 now. In general, I followed stock except when I upgraded something. My right headlight is grounded to my left headlight and the left headlight then is grounded to the rear bolt of the rear generator mount (that also has a harness clip.) I won't guarantee it's stock, but it has worked flawlessly for 37 years.
