how to change a farmall h from 6 volt to 12

Yep, don't.

An H will spin over plenty fast on 6, no reason to switch to 12.

But if you wanted to go cheap, get magneto ignition, throw a 12 volt battery on it for starting, charge a couple times a month or so.

The content in this set of diagrams is from Bob M. This is as reliable and simple as possible. Do not go with a "one wire setup".
The reality is that it does not need 12v. A use of 00gauge bat cables, and a good battery will make it crank like it should. JimN

Its pretty easy accept getting the most common and I think easist to use alt. the delco 10si under the hood and still have room to swing it over to tighten your belt . I read on here about using a smaller case alt. off a datsun car but I havent done on that way I built a idler arm to tighten the belt after that you need a12v battery a resister to put in the power wire to the coil change all lamps to 12v if your going to use lights also switch battery cables to neg ground dont need to do anything with the starter there will be a little fab work on the gen. mounts to get alt. in whole thing if you do it yourself 150-200bucks and a evening in the shop maybe less also put a diode harness on the alt. to keep from back feeding your ingnition ( tractor wont shut off sometimes if you dont under 10$ at auto supply store

Find a good automotive electric repair shop & have them convert the H's generator over to 12v, it can even be changed to neg. ground if you want. I have had a couple generators off of an M & a SMTA done this way. Wasn't expensive, guy didn't charge me for one & $35 for the other one. The one he charged for needed some work done to it.

Nice thing about using the original generator is that you don't have to mess around making / altering brackets & it looks original if you are in to correctness. Only thing you will need to do is flip the wires on the amp meter if you switch to neg ground or it will show a discharge when charging.
