Installed a new harness from Agri Services on my 460 u (including a Nippondenso Alternator) Problem on first start up is the alt seems to be way over charging. Voltage fluctuates rapidly from 12V to way over 100V. I have a message to Agriservices but @ 6pm on a Saturday Thought I May have quicker results here. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

It is not getting sensing (control) voltage. I do not know what it is hooked to, or how, but it is not self regulating, all alternators depend on a connection to a battery (or other reference voltage) to control the output. Google Nippondenso alternator images, then choose the one you have and see if you can get wiring diagram for it. Just plain Google will also get there, Google Nippondenso Alternator wiring. JimN

Jim,

We have 12.75 V when the tractor is off at the battery. When we run the tractor it reads on a tester that we have over 15v BUT the guage is pegged to the charge side. We tried another guage and it acted the same way...pegged. We tested the regulator using a test light and the battery and we had continuity. When we disconnect one wire from the regulator while the tractor is running the guage reads (what we feel) is a normal discharge rate. As soon as that wire is replaced the needle is pegged and you can hear a slight laboring of the engine. Any other thoughts or questions? I will google your above selection.

Toss the whacked-out-by-the-noisy-ignition-and-charging-system digital voltmeter out and use a SIMPLE analog meter. There... problem solved.

(What you are seeing is COMMON if using a digital meter.)
