C135 crank pulley repair

Here is a photo of my crank pulley with apparent deep groove.

My question is: is this a steel casting which could presumably be tig-welded up and then remachined & polished back or an iron casting without the ability to do the same type of repair?

It occurred to me that the crank pulley could presumably be driven deeper or shallower onto the crank nose with some custom spacers...in an effort to find "fresh land" on the seal's running surface. However at best that would put the accessory v-belt drive out of plane.

Your thoughts and advice please? Thanks - Matt

I'm sure bigger brains than mine will give you the definitive answer, but my guess is that its cast Iron. But a thought occured to me...Would a Speedi-Sleeve work on this Surface??? Just throwing it out there...I don't know if they make one that Dia......

Redi or Speedy-sleeve (or what ever brand name) it and be done with it. they can be had in just about any diameter you need. Good luck.

Matt: If you buy the seal from CaseIH, a matching sleeve will come with it. I"ve had this with any C-113, C-123 or C-135 that I"ve bought a seal for.

Great info by all and thank you. I did research the Speedi-Sleeve which is a Chicago Rawhide (and now SKF) product with an online catalog.

They have the standard 304SS sleeves plus also a "gold" sleeve which I can only guess is TiN coated (metalworking edge-tool technology) which has a rockwell approaching 80C (very very very hard).

I'm interested in the gold :D Although I will price one from CIH.

The pulley's untouched running surface mics at 1.875" dia if anyone is interested.
